El matemático Johann Peter Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet (1805-1859) hizo grandes contribuciones a las matemáticas, especialmente en teoría de números y en el uso de series para aproximar funciones, pero como buen matématico no le gustaba perder el tiempo en escribir y menos si se trababa de escribir cartas.
Entre las escasas ocasiones en las que se decidió a escribir, una de ellas, quizá la más importante, fue coincidiendo con el nacimiento de su primer hijo. Dirichlet escribió y envió un telegrama a su suegro para darle la buena nueva con el siguiente mensaje: 2 + 1 = 3
